Drumming Benefits for Schools and Families.

There are numerous skills that children and staff acquire whilst sitting in the drum circle. For some children just the very act of sitting within the circle and playing a drum for 45 minutes is a major accomplishment in itself. The drum is also an incredible focussing device, they are tactile and alluring to all children and of course adults. Children love to beat them, they take little skill in order to produce a sound and the child is instantly contributing to and making music. Yet underneath all of this a huge amount of processing and skill aquisition is going on. Just a few of the social skills that are developed within the circle include :-

  • Cooperation
  • Listening
  • Attention Span
  • Concentration
  • Interaction
  • Leadership
  • Tolerance
  • Respect
  • Acceptance
  • Responsibility
  • Self Esteem
  • Social Dynamics
  • Self Awareness
  • Focus
  • Self Control

All of these social skills carry over into everyday life, interaction in the class-room, playground, home and for the adults the work place as well. Skills that provide a foundation for learning and a foundation for life all through attending drum circles and playing a drum.
